THE LACROSSE SEASON (3-8 Grade)

 Lacrosse is played outdoors during the months of April – June. Players participate in weekly practices followed by weekend games and occasional tournaments. Additionally MLC holds winter Skills and Drills for all teams during the months of January – March to prepare for the spring season.

REGISTRATION

3-8th Grade Player Registration for the upcoming spring season opens in fall of the year prior. MLC offers “Early Bird Registration” for one month, traditionally from October 1st – October 31st (Halloween), where families have the opportunity to SAVE on their registration fees. After October 31st player fees return to our base price and registration remains open until the end of the year OR until rosters are filled. Referral discounts for friends and/or siblings are also available. MUSKEGO LACROSSE CLUB prides itself on being one of the most AFFORDABLE PROGRAMS in our league! MAYLA

The Muskego Lacrosse Club is a member of the MILWAUKEE AREA YOUTH LACROSSE ASSOCIATION (MAYLA). We compete against other local teams in the league during the spring lacrosse season. MAYLA follows all guidelines set forth by USA LACROSSE. All members must have a USA LACROSSE membership. This membership is included in all player fees.

WINTER SKILLS & DRILLS

All teams will participate in our Winter Skills & Drills sessions. These are weekly INDOOR practices beginning in January of each year and concluding by the end of March. (8 weeks) Skills & Drills focus on the development of individual and team skills to prepare all players for the upcoming season. Traditionally Skills & Drills are Sunday evenings for 1.5 hours and are included in your player fees. Players are STRONGLY encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible.

SPRING PRACTICES

Outdoor practices begin in April or as soon as the weather allows. Practices will be TWICE a week on a designated weeknight and last approximately 1.5 hours. Coaches may make a schedule change based on the needs of the team or field availability. Traditionally all teams practice at Bay Lane Elementary School.

GAMES

Games are played on weekends during the months of April – June. This excludes any holidays that fall on a weekend. AWAY games are played at the host team’s facility. HOME games are currently played at Muskego High School.

Typical game times are as follows: (Times are subject to change by the league)

Saturdays: 14U: 9am, 12U: 10:30am, 10U: 12:00Pm

Sundays: 10U: 12:00pm. 12U: 1:30pm, 14U: 3:00pm

TOURNAMENTS

It is our goal that each team play in at least ONE tournament style competition during the spring. However some teams may play in additional tournaments based on age level, availability, and budget. All teams participate in MAYLA’s annual event known as LAXTRAVAGANZA. MLC will aim to select events that best suit our team’s level of play. Some tournaments may require an additional fee to participate.

Parents need to arrange transportation for their athletes to all games and tournaments.

UNIFORMS / EQUIPMENT

Each player is provided a practice pinnie AND uniform jersey and shorts. Girls have 2 jerseys while the boys have a reversible light/dark jersey. Uniforms are property of MLC and are returned at the end of the season. A uniform deposit is collected upon issue of the uniform and destroyed upon return of the uniform in satisfactory condition.

Due to a USA LACROSSE grant, ALL player equipment including a stick is provided to our 10U (3/4 grade) boys players and returned at the end of the season. This gear is property of MLC and an equipment deposit is required.

Equipment is required for all other age groups at their own expense unless otherwise specified. There are many cost effective options on the market. Contact us for more guidance. All equipment MUST meet the USA LACROSSE specifications.

Required Boys Equipment: Helmet (Black or White), shoulder pads with required chest protection, elbow pads, gloves, mouth guard and stick. (Optional but recommended equipment: athletic cup and cleats)

Required Girls Equipment: Goggles, mouth guard, and stick. (Optional but recommended equipment: cleats)

USED EQUIPMENT PROGRAM: Is your player outgrowing his or her equipment? Muskego Lacrosse would appreciate any donated items to help build an inventory of used equipment for newer players to try or loan. Please consider donating your used equipment to our program.

CLINICS & CAMPS

MLC hosts a number of lacrosse clinics annually. Traditionally we hold both a summer and fall clinic at Muskego High School. These clinics are a great way for new players to try or learn more about the game as well as for experienced players to work to improve their skills. ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS WELCOME

Additionally MLC will host a number of “TRY LACROSSE” opportunities for brand NEW players without experience, to teach them the basics of the game and get them excited to play with us.

NEW in 2021 MLC will host a 2-Day “Holiday Camp” during the Christmas School Break. This camp will be for experienced players to work on position specific skills, as well as to compete in small games and scrimmages

VOLUNTEERING

 All families are required to volunteer during the lacrosse season. Duties include field prep, fundraising help, scoreboard, tournament committee, assistant coaching, etc. A volunteer deposit is required and returned upon completion of requirements.

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising is an option that you chose when you registered your son or daughter for the season.  If you chose to fundraise, This assists us in growing the game in the community as well as purchasing needed equipment for our players and/or facilities. Families may choose to BUY OUT of their fundraising requirements at a set fee.

SPONSORSHIPS

MLC is looking to team up with local businesses and organizations in the community, willing to support our club and mission of GROWING THE GAME of LACROSSE! Sponsors will receive advertising and promotion through our website and social media outlets as well as on field banners throughout the season.

LITTLE LAX (1/2 Grade)

In 2021, MLC created our popular LITTLE LAX program. This is a Co-ed developmental program for boys and girls in grades 1 and 2. (8U) Little Lax is designed to teach the game of lacrosse through fun and competitive drills and games. We want to show the kids how FUN the sport of lacrosse is and why they should continue to play for years to come!

Little Lax is a 6 week program, once a week during the months of May & June. All participants receive a player shirt AND lacrosse stick to KEEP! Registration for this program opens in fall of the year prior. Stay tuned to our website for more information.
